What it costs you99.2% of the blue light, and 82% of everything else. A red traffic light transmits 88% through this lens; a green one, 5.4%.
In plain language
This lens blocks blue and green — the whole range the melanopsin receptor responds to. At 550 nanometres it transmits 1.3%. Everything turns red.
That is the point, and it is also the warning. This lens blocks 82% of all visible light. Through it, a green traffic light and a red one look the same. It is made for a room you know, in the last hour before sleep.
It does not pass the traffic-signal requirements of EN ISO 12312-1, and we say so here rather than leaving it in a footnote.
I wear the red pair every evening. Not to test it — because the last hour of the day looks different with it on, and I have stopped wanting it any other way. — Joep
